Let’s Talk about Stretch Marks

Posted by workingmothers on February 5, 2008

I talked about expecting yesterday and today, I would like to tell you more about the physical changes that a woman’s body goes through during pregnancy. One of the dreaded changes would be having stretch marks.

I have had two pregnancies and have always had big tummies because I have a lot of fluid. Thus, my skin stretches so much I get stretch marks on my tummy and buttocks. I wished there was a way to prevent stretch marks. After I give birth, well, actually till now, I have ugly stretch marks on my tummy and my youngest is already almost three years old!

I have been given tons of advice. Don’t scratch your tummy. Don’t eat this food and that. Apply lotion on your bulging belly everyday. But obviously they don’t work for me. Stretch marks are like scars brought about by breaking of your skin’s collagen and lack of your skin’s elasticity. So that means, it’s beyond the powers of your regular moisturizing lotion. I do wish I had something to prevent them like stretch mark creams or any other solution. I read in a website that there actually creams now that are successful in diminishing stretch marks. Well, that is good news! Because I would really like NOT to have stretch marks anymore.

So please if you get pregnant or lose weight dramatically, be wary of the stretch marks, take care of your skin and do yourself a big favor.

Speaking of taking care of your body, you may want to enroll in my pre-natal belly dance class. First, you have to get your Doctor’s approval. My routines are tailored to pregnant mommies like me.

Let’s stay in shape! God bless.
